Grief, Loss and Life Transitions

Philip Hammel, Psychologist, PsyD - Primary Therapist

Loss can take many forms—and none of them are easy.

Grief, loss, and major life transitions can shake the ground beneath you.

Whether you're grieving a loved one, facing a life change you didn’t expect, or feeling disconnected from who you used to be—it's common to feel overwhelmed, numb, or stuck.

You may be grieving a death, but loss can also mean the end of a relationship, a change in identity, a move, an injury, or even a shift in how you see yourself.

And transitions—whether starting college, retiring, becoming a parent, or caring for an aging loved one—can bring emotions you didn’t anticipate.

Many people find themselves saying:

“I don’t know who I am without them.”

“I miss the version of me I used to be.”

“I thought I’d be ready for this change, but I’m not.”

“My body’s here, but my mind is stuck somewhere else.”

These experiences can come with waves of sadness, anger, regret, disbelief, guilt, or deep loneliness.

You may feel isolated—even from people who care. You might be unsure how to talk about what you’re going through, or afraid of being overwhelmed if you do.

You want to feel understood, to make sense of your pain, and to believe you’ll get through this.

Therapy offers space for that.

Through a blend of narrative grief therapy, experiential methods, and acceptance-based approaches, we’ll help you:

Tell the story of your loss

Process difficult emotions through meaningful rituals or reflection

Reconnect with your sense of self and direction

Find ways to carry your grief with strength, not silence

When left unaddressed, grief and disorientation can deepen into isolation and disconnection—from others and from yourself.

But healing is possible, and often begins with being seen and heard.

If you’ve been encouraged by someone close to you, or something you read or heard sparked the idea—this might be the time to talk.

I’m here to help you make sense of the pain and move forward with meaning.

Change is possible. Fulfillment is possible. Connection is possible.
