About Philip

Why I became a therapist:

Early in life it became clear I seemed to excel at making friends and caring for my classmates/teachers/siblings/neighbors/family friends/etc.

I have always wanted people to feel heard, understood, and cared for. And I believe that when you help one person heal/feel cared for, they are more likely to do the same for others in their life.

My approach to therapy:

My general approach to therapy is to take a collaborative approach in which our (myself and my clients) combined curiosity, insights/knowledge, experiences, strengths, and rapport can help create an atmosphere where positive changes and various solutions can grow from.

While I recognize I have a knowledge base about human psychology/therapy techniques that my clients are seeking out, I also genuinely believe that we each bring so many different valuable experiences and insights into the sessions.

I believe therapy is more powerful and successful when clients feel respected by their therapist and generally like their therapist.

In terms of what therapy looks like with me, I would say it is a friendly/somewhat casual vibe that also appreciates the structure that people often are looking for when they seek help with psychological issues.

I like to ask various questions so that my clients can both feel heard/cared for and also so that we can get a good sense of all the various aspects of their life and the situation(s) that brings them to seek support. I like to share knowledge about some of the issues they are describing and together we create treatment goals that we can track and see how they progress or where they get stuck and how to move forward.

While I specialize helping men to rediscover their passions and sense of connection and purpose, I also support women in their journeys to improved well-being.

Women are often involved in supporting so many people in their lives in various ways that they can feel depleted and overwhelmed and needing their own emotional support.

Some women will say that having a psychologist can sometimes be helpful because they are looking for problem-solving or direct interventions which is something I am comfortable providing.

Some of my female clients have expressed appreciation for getting a male perspective on certain issues that impact their partner, family member, or friend. I can offer emotional support and validation while exploring practical solutions that can facilitate desired progress.

What I like to do for fun:

I am an avid fan of stand-up comedy as well as a huge fan of soccer. I love traveling and I am passionate about walkable areas for people to live in as well as visit.

I am a bit of a foodie and love watching movies and listening to chill music (folk, indie rock). I love being a father/husband.

Change is possible. Fulfillment is possible. Connection is possible.
