As a child, I was an animal-lover and considered a future in marine biology, but was captivated by my undergraduate psychology classes and started working at UC San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center in neuropsychology research and clinical trials. I was fortunate to have supportive mentors who encouraged me to pursue my doctorate with an emphasis in Health Psychology and I learned about the mind-body connection and all about the autonomic nervous system, heart rate variability, and biofeedback.
Working at the medical center in various settings, I was able to work with clients with a range of issues including physical concerns (e.g., liver disease/GI, chronic pain, obesity, acute hospitalization) that also had an impact on their emotional and mental health. I later received instruction and training in attachment research and particularly enjoyed areas of early intervention with families and young children.
After getting married and starting my own family, I wanted to focus on supporting early parenthood and infant/child experiences and relationships.
I worked in the UCSD Women’s Reproductive Mental Health program as a staff psychologist offering outpatient individual and group psychotherapy to mothers struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety, and mood symptoms. I also helped run the intensive outpatient program (IOP) until shifting to private practice. My family later moved from California to Arizona allowing first-hand experience of a major relocation and life transition.
I genuinely want to help others feel valued and appreciated for being themselves. I want to offer space that others receive support through kind words, noticing strengths, and providing a compassionate view of themselves they might not have noticed or realized.
By exploring current and past experiences, individuals can pause and reflect on their experiences (as well as personal needs and desires), allowing thoughts and feelings to arise while we sit together with whatever shows up.
This may include the possible discomforts as well as joys that life can bring. I think that sharing these with a supportive person can be powerful in allowing one to feel connected to themselves and to common humanity.
By sitting together and actively “being with” this experience, it is my hope that others will feel less alone in their lives, and can find some refuge to connect, release, or recharge, and move forward in valued actions of their choosing.
I enjoy making my home a cozy and comfortable place to live for my family (my family laughs that I’m often rearranging furniture in the house).
I enjoy cooking, decorating with plants and flowers, trying new arts and crafts projects, and getting outdoors as much as possible.
